TNA Lockdown 2012 Predictions | Pay Per View Predictions – SA Magazine
Gail Kim (c) vs. Velvet Sky
Two wrestlers that have been given a slow, crescendo type storyline, designed entirely to build to a climax at Lockdown… where we would finally receive our payoff. One of those two is Velvet Sky. Problem is… it’s just going to feel “weird’ somehow to see Gail Kim walking around without any gold. All personal gut feelings aside however, from a smart mark perspective the Knockouts belt really shouldn’t change hands, in regards to which athlete deserves what. But it probably will. I just pray they use Lockdown as the beginning of a great new Velvet vs Gail feud that will culminate at Bound For Glory, as opposed to the beginning of a Raine-Kim feud which would be tired and boring. But TNA will probably take the low road and have the Queen, Madison Rayne, screw things up for Kim somehow and keep all the boob-guy marks in TNA-Land happy.
WINNER: Velvet Sky
Crimson vs. Matt Morgan
Is it the end of this feud? Maybe. For awhile any way. Let’s face it. Morgan’s character has been pretty useless for, well, awhile now. “The DNA of TNA” is arguably one of the best taglines, ever, and they haven’t done a damn thing with him or it since the six-sided ring was nixed. Is it because he’s not ‘there’ yet? Perhaps. He can wrestle, and he can talk on the mike, but that’s a bit like saying Rick Astley ‘can’ sing- no one denies that there is talent there, it’s just that we’re still waiting for him to say and do something interesting. In other words, it’s sad to say but Matt Morgan is still not over. I say Morgan loses, and maybe receives a post match beat down leading to a ‘serious’ injury, to not only get Crimson over as the undefeated “evil-Goldberg” (hopefully leaving a new path of wrestlers in his angry wake) but also so Morgan can take some time off to be retooled… and maybe return at Bound For Glory to end Crimson’s streak (if Goldberg doesn’t sign and do it first).
Kurt Angle vs. Jeff Hardy
This one was kind of a no-brainer anyway. Now that Kurt Angle is legitimately injured (injured to the point where a bull-headed real-life Kurt Angle actually had to pull out of Olympic competition) it’s even more of a no-brainer. With that said, the only “win” here would be if TNA would please stop repackaging the same old matches (How many times have we seen Angle vs Hardy in the last two years? A thousand?) and maybe do some other creative things with their TV time like, ya know, maybe actually put the TV Champion on TV once in awhile, or finally give Rosita an actual singles match. Just a thought.
TV Title Match
Devon (c) vs. Robbie E.
The match for the TV title, that was never once pushed on TV. Makes… um… sense? TNA is trying to make Devon relevant. They should be more concerned with making Robbie E relevant. Dixie Carter keeps spewing “Big changes are coming from TNA and we’re gonna be focusing on the younger talent.” but just because you repeatedly edify a total of two ‘younger’ stars (Roode and Storm), well, would Santa Claus be a big deal if he only delivered goodies to the same two houses every year? Yes Robbie E is a silly gimmick. So was Honky Tonk Man. So was Disco Inferno. So is Santino Marella. Brutus The Barber Beefcake. Million Dollar Man. So what? I personally hate anything and everything Jersey Shore related, and Robbie E does a great job of mocking it, especially with the Robbie T bit tossed in for some gravy. But that doesn’t mean I want Robbie to win, nor does it mean I think he should, or will win. In fact, since they seem dead set on showing Devon some respect, throw him a bone, let him win, and hopefully make the belt mean something again. In the mean time, they can do something even bigger and better with Robbie E (Feud him with Austin Aries perhaps and put a fourth wrestler in the X-Division?) and give him the push he deserves. TNA can not expect to ever get over the hump if they throw it in the lake, every time they actually do catch lightning in a bottle. They did it with Jay Lethal and The Young Bucks. They need to not make the same mistake with Robbie E.
TNA Tag Team Title Match
Samoa Joe & Magnus (c) vs. Motor City Machine Guns
Here’s the problem. There are NO other Tag Teams in TNA all of a sudden. What in the hell happened to the best Tag Team Division in wrestling? Well sadly, that claim now falls firmly in the hands of Ring of Honor, and before anyone screams “What about Mexican America?” (which is/was my absolute favorite angle on all of TNA) well I’d love to agree with you but how credible is Mexican America now that they’ve made Hernandez & Anarquia look like complete cretins for almost a month straight now? So… since TNA needs to do some serious work rebuilding the division, hopefully by bringing in someone new, and by ‘someone’ I mean an actual ‘team’ who wears the same uniform and uses an actual team name, as opposed to “Wrestler A & Wrestler B”. But until the division is actually rebuilt, they cannot put the belts on MCM just yet. If they do? It seriously lowers the credibility of the entire division even more, meaning the MCM’s pretty much have zero reason to even exist. It’s like starting your own bowling league, and not allowing anyone else to join… just so you can say you’re the champ. Big whoop.
WINNER: Joe & Magnus
Winner Leaves Town Match
Team Garrett Bischoff vs. Team Eric Bischoff
Team Garrett’s AJ Styles, Austin Aries, Mr. Anderson, & Rob Van Dam take on Team Eric’s Bully Ray, Gunner, Christopher Daniels, & Kazarian. The only thing good we can hope for out of this match is maybe some new feuds brewing. Maybe we’ll finally get some *real* explanations about Kazarian-Styles-Daniels? All I know from reading the spoilers is that post Lockdown, Mr. Boring himself, Rob Van Dam is expected to get a major push. But let’s concentrate on the match itself. Let’s face it, ask 100 people, or ask Scott Steiner 100 times- either way you’ll have the same answer 100 times… that both Bischoffs belong off television. So what’s the best outcome here to make this incredibly awful story line remotely interesting? A swerve of course. Look for Garrett to turn heel. Blood is thicker than water, and it’s time to make things rough for the new GM, brother.
WINNER: Team Eric Bischoff
TNA World Title Match
Bobby Roode (c) vs. The Cowboy James Storm
Here we have the other wrestler whose been given a crescendo story, designed to build to climax at Lockdown, James Storm. Yes, TNA has done a fine job building this story line, but they need to remember, as I said earlier there are more than just two “young stars” in their company, so forgive me if I don’t applaud. When they learn how to build all their stories and deserving wrestlers (The Pope, anyone?) this way- the way WWE does (even though we don’t care about the characters or the plots in WWE, they do know HOW to tell a story the right way- it just so happens that they tell stories we aren’t particularly interested in hearing) then I’ll be as excited about TNA as I was before the Hulk Hogan era. At any rate, Lockdown is arguably TNA’s second biggest PPV of the year and this is where good things are supposed to happen. We’re getting the warm and fuzzies with Velvet Sky, and we’ll probably get the same here. Even though I would still like to see Storm get screwed for another month or two to really drive it home, I don’t think they’ll go that way.
WINNER: James Storm
